6 Tips to Lowering Freight Shipping Costs

Controlling freight costs begins with accurate shipment information and a clear understanding of what the quotation includes. Tanzanian importers and regional buyers can use these six checks before committing to a booking.

1. Measure the packed shipment

Use the final packed dimensions, gross weight and number of pieces. Estimates based only on the product can miss the space or weight added by crates and pallets. Send corrected details before booking if the supplier changes the packaging.

2. Compare the same service scope

Check whether each quotation covers the same origin and destination. Separate freight, clearance support, terminal handling, inland transport and storage where applicable. A lower headline price can exclude a stage that another provider has included.

3. Plan the booking window

Share the cargo readiness date and required delivery window early. Ask which schedules are available and what happens if the supplier misses the agreed readiness date. Do not treat an indicative schedule as a guaranteed delivery commitment.

4. Check opportunities to combine cargo

Where several orders are ready at compatible times, ask whether consolidation is practical. Consider handling, storage, documentation and delivery requirements as well as the freight amount. Combining goods is not automatically suitable for every commodity or deadline.

5. Prepare for collection and delivery

Arrange documents, decisions and receiving capacity before cargo is ready for release. Ask the coordinator about any time-based charges relevant to the booking and how their deadlines are calculated. Exact terms depend on the carrier, facility and agreement.

6. Review the final cost record

Compare the final invoice with the accepted quotation. Identify the reason for each variation and what information could have prevented it. Build future budgets from your own shipment records rather than relying on a fixed “cost per container” that ignores route and cargo differences.

This is a useful post for finding broken links within the website, what about links pointing outwards that are broken? I can use a free web service but wondered if this was possible.

Great tool! I am using a redirect plugin to send all my 404s to my home page but I think its slacking sometimes.
