The final delivery of cargo in Tanzania should be planned before the truck leaves the port or warehouse. Confirm the receiving location, access conditions, unloading arrangements and contact person so the shipment can be handed over properly.
Confirm the destination beyond a map pin
A map pin is useful, but the driver also needs the business name, street or landmark, gate instructions and a reachable receiver. In a busy commercial area, clarify where a truck can stop without blocking access. For a construction site or an inland destination, ask about the approach road, turning space and any restrictions on arrival times. Share these details with the transport coordinator.
Match the vehicle to the receiving site
Cargo weight and dimensions influence vehicle choice, but site access matters too. Explain whether the delivery point has a loading bay, forklift or suitable lifting equipment. Do not assume the driver provides unloading labour or machinery. Agree who supplies the equipment and who supervises the handover before dispatch, especially for heavy or awkward items.
Prepare the receiver before dispatch
Send a shipment reference and package list to the receiving team. Make sure the person authorised to accept the goods will be available. Where cargo is going to several branches, label packages by destination and agree the unloading order. A simple receiving plan can prevent a vehicle arriving at a locked gate or a team searching for the correct stock.
Close the job with a recorded handover
Count packages against the delivery record and note visible damage or shortages before signing. Photograph relevant packaging concerns and notify the coordinator promptly. Keep the signed delivery record with the shipment file. This does not replace any carrier or insurance claims procedure, but it creates a clearer record of what arrived and when.
A useful delivery instruction
Include the delivery address, named receiver, telephone contact, unloading method, receiving hours and cargo reference. Update the coordinator if any of those details change while the shipment is in transit.
